UAL Industries Ltd., formerly known as Utkal Asbestos Limited mainly in the business of manufacturing Fibre Cement Corrugated sheets and accessories under the Brand ‘Konark’, first began commercial production on the 1st of May 1980 at Dhenkanal, Orissa. Utkal Asbestos Limited is changed to UAL Industries Limited on 16th January , 2006. The 1st unit with an installed capacity of 30,000 MT per annum was then modernised in 1998 following which a second unit, UAL-Bengal, was set up near Kharagpur in West Midnapore District of West Bengal in 1999.

The company’s primary goal is to identify the needs and wants of the customer, work successively in the Value Chain and create products and services to fulfil these demands, thereby providing them with full satisfaction in the field of Fibre Cement Roofing. With a vision ‘Right at the Top’, the company has left no stone unturned to achieve its motive of becoming the leading player in Eastern India. In the past 20 years it has been able to grow its production capacity to over 200,000 MT per annum.

‘Konark’ today holds a dominant presence in West Bengal and Orissa and enjoys steady growth in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. Its extensive distribution network has been able to penetrate deep into Rural Markets thereby making its products and services readily and easily available for housing and other requirements.

‘Konark’, a trusted name, today holds the image of a high quality product. The company received the ISO 9001:2000 certifications from BVQI (Bureau Veritas Quality International) thereby adding another feather to its cap. It is relevant to mention that its products are Eco-Friendly since the ISO 14001: 2004 certifications from BVQI (Bureau Veritas Quality International) and TUV CERT (Certification body of RQTUV System GmBH) were also acquired.

The company has also created a township for its employees named "Konark Nagar" at its ‘Tungadhowa Works’ which is also ISO 14001: 2004 (Environmental System Certified by BVQI) and thus fulfilled its commitments to the nation for proving to be a company following sound and healthy commercial practices to conduct its operations in a profitable manner. The company has been growing at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate of over 15% p.a. in the past 5 years, booked a turnover of around Rs 800 Million last year and expects to touch the Rs 1 Billion mark as turnover during the current year i.e. 2004-05. Presently its employee strength is around 525.

UAL-Bengal a unit of UAL INDUSTRIES LTD. were ranked first and has been awarded Environment Excellence Award 2005 by West Bengal Cleaner Production Centre, a collaborative effort of West Bengal Polution Control Board and Indian Chamber of Commerce. In the year 2004, UAL’s plant at Dhenkanal, Orissa, received an ‘Excellence Award’ from the Government of Orissa. The company has set up another plant at Vill: Baramanpur,Dist: Jaunpur, near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, which helped in increasing its marketing network by penetrating into States like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh,Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Chatisgarh, which also increased the turnover and profitability.

Ministry of environment and forests, Govt. of India, New Delhi has been pleased to accord Environmental clearance to UAL BENGAL, Prop. UAL INDUSTRIES LTD., formarly known as Utkal Asbestos Limited (Manufacturers of 'Konark' brand Fibre Cement sheets) for expansion of their production capacity from 1,40,000 TPA to 2,50,000 TPA, for manufacturing of Fibre Cement Sheets and Acessories at their unit situated at Guptamani, Tungadowa, district Midnapore(W), West Bengal, vide letter No.
J-11011/556/2007-IA(I) dated 30th October 2007.
